How to face job interview?

In this article I am going to give some tips regarding how to face a job interview. These are as follows:

1. The very first thing is to prepare a good resume. This will ensure that you will get calls from the job consultants who may shortlist your resume from the internet job portals.

2. Your Resume must contain the following ingredients, Your Qualifications in detail like %age marks obtained, Year of passing, University, any awards obtained, seminars attended etc.

3. Your Resume must also highlight your work experience in detail in each company. For this you have to recollect the major work done in each organization and mention in your Resume. This will make your Resume stand apart from others. But don’t write any kind of work/assignment not done by you because writing anything false will not give you enough confidence required to face the interview.

4. Always reach the interview place 15-20 minutes before the scheduled time. This will make you comfortable at the place of interview.

5. If you are a smoker, then see to it that the smell doesn’t disturb the people around. Take mouth freshner pills before the interview.

6. When you enter the interview room, greet the interviewer with respect and occupy the seat when told to do so.

7. During the interview, maintain eye contact with the interviewer. Also you must have a smile on your face.

8. When asked about your salary, always say 20% more. Then the person taking the interview will negotiate and then will reduce it to the salary which is your actual expected salary.

9. Never sign any bond or agreement that will bind you to work for the company for a particular period of time.

10. If you don’t know the answer of any question, say it clearly that you don’t know that.

11. Be positive throughout the interview and always remember that even if you fail in that it will at least give you experience so that you will perform good in another company interview. So be cheerful and fearless and try to give the answers to all the questions with good confidence.

12. Always listen to the interviewer carefully what he/she is saying or asking; what information about the job responsibility, job profile, information about the company he/she is giving. Listening is an essential part of communication. Then politely answer to his/her questions. There is nothing wrong if you wait for 10-20 seconds before answering the question or making any decision.

13. Always be honest in your dealings. Honesty is a quality which the interviewer sees in the candidates. Even a dishonest person wants to have honest employees. So cultivate this habit in you.

14. Always remember that sometimes not getting what you want may be a matter of luck. So don’t worry about that. Prepare yourself well and leave rest to God. All the Best.

How to tackle office politics

Here are some tips to tackle office politics:

  1. Be polite with your subordinates and others. Understand clearly that people around you are human beings and not robots or machine. They also have heart. They can also make errors. Don’t shout or become angry on them.
  1. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. Don’t interfere with other people’s work.
  1. Speak only the matter which is important. Unnecessary talk will waste your and other’s time and energy.
  1. Don’t always go for the obvious. Consider the moral aspect also. This ability of distinguishing what is right and what is wrong will be developed when you get matured slowly, till that time take the guidance of your parents, elders and teachers.
  1. Always be honest with the employer. Give the most of your output so that he is satisfied with your performance. Let all the thousands of employees of the company be against you, if you are with the employer, then you are doing your duty properly.

In this context one quote of the great Politician Chanakya is worth mentioning:

“A moon can give more light that thousands of stars cannot. Similarly a learned and cultured son is far better that hundreds of son deprived of good qualities.”

Following the lawful orders of the employer, can be learnt from this small story:

A Gurkha soldier, from the British Army was severely wounded during the war and was on the verge of death. The doctors met the Commander Chief and told that the Gurkha will die unless he shows some will to live.

The Commander Chief immediately rushed into the room where the wounded Gurkha was lying, and barked, “live”.

And the Gurkha obeyed.

  1. Don’t waste time worrying about what others think about you. They are, on the contrary thinking, what you think about them.
  1. If criticism is getting you down, always remember, “A statue was not erected in honor of a critic”
  1. Utilize your free time for knowledge up-gradation, instead of gossiping.
  1. Don’t try to be superman and fight if there is a clash, go through proper channel, like HR, Manager, Director etc. If all the methods are not workable, then go by Tit for Tat method.
  1. All the good people should not always tolerate injustice. One of our Indian Saints has once said that “If we take MALA (for chanting GOD’s name), then sometimes we should take BHALA (weapon) also.” We were ruled by Mughals for some centuries, then, because of the efforts of Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap and other great personalities, we got freedom, then the Britishers ruled us for 150 years, now we got freedom because of great freedom fighters, now its our duty to maintain the peace and freedom of our country.
  1. I will end this article with this very important statement:

“ALL MEN CAN SEE THESE TACTICS WHEREBY I CONQUER, BUT WHAT NONE CAN SEE IS THE STRATEGY OUT OF WHICH VICTORY IS EVOLVED”

With Best Regards

How to Create a MS Excel Pivot Table – An Introduction Read more: How to Create a MS Excel Pivot Table

Creating a Pivot Table in MS Excel 2010 is very easy if your data is in proper TABULAR LAYOUT FORMAT.

Here is a sample table representing the imaginary Atlantic and Pacific region sales of a fictitious fish company.

MS-Excel-2010-Pivot-Table-FISH-COMPANY-1
As you can see, it’s not easy to look at this data and answer a simple question like “which fish brand is more profitable in Atlantic region?”, or, “Which fish is more profitable in Quarter 2, regardless of region?”
Such “trick questions” is easy to answer when you re-format your data as a Pivot Table.
(1) Select your table.
(2) Go to Insert tab on the ribbon and click the PivotTable button on the Tables pod. Create Pivot Table dialog box will display:

(3) Use the default “New Worksheet” setting and click OK to display the Pivot Table wizard in a new worksheet:
MS-Excel-2010-Pivot-Table-FISH-COMPANY-Create-Pivot-Table-2
(4) Select the fields (variables) you’d like to include in your Pivot Table by putting a check mark next to them. REMEMBER: Your original data remains intact no matter what you do with your Pivot Table. However, it’s always good practice to keep a backup copy of all your important data before manipulating them.
Your screen now should look something like this:
MS-Excel-2010-Pivot-Table-FISH-COMPANY-Create-Pivot-Table-3
(5) Now you can click and drag the BRAND field from the ROW labels to the COLUMN labels to create a different Pivot Table:
MS-Excel-2010-Pivot-Table-FISH-COMPANY-Create-Pivot-Table-4-1024x461
(6) Now click and drag the QUARTER field from the ROW label to the COLUMN label and drag the BRAND label back to the ROW labels to create yet another Pivot Table:
MS-Excel-2010-Pivot-Table-FISH-COMPANY-Create-Pivot-Table-51-1024x461
As you can see, different Pivot Tables display different relationships between selected data, which is the whole idea to this exercise.
To make these relationships easily detectable, you can select the part of the table that interests you and then switch on different visualization options from HOME Tab > CONDITIONAL FORMATTING. Here is one such example:
